How Odd

June 9th, 2008

Isn’t it interesting how nothing at all can destroy that scrap of confidence you’ve been trying to build your whole life?  Heh.  Guess I’m having one of my days.  One could find the positive since it has been many years since having one of my days.  My days aren’t about the positive though.

And yet this one is just a little different.  Should that be the positive taken from it?  I’m not sure.  It’s interesting, usually one large thing can happen which makes me need a day.  But today, instead we have many tiny things, unconnected things, converging from different aspects of my life causing today.  I’m smiling.  Not the cynical smile I try desperately to hide.  Not the fake smile you all know so well.  A genuine smile.  This is different than I’m use to.  Is this the positive move I’ve needed to happen for so long now?  I think it is.  So I raise my glass (My last 90 Minute IPA if you’re interested) and ask you to do the same.

Cheers and Hooray!

Hooray Responsibility!

So I’m starting to finally feel more at home. I have a store that sells beer. The people in the store know beer as well. That makes me feel good. I can pick up some Ruination or some 90-Minute, and they nod their heads in agreement to the awesomeness that is beer. Now I just need a bar with some taps of substance and I’ll be a fish in water.

Thank Goodness for a Day Off

Whew this week has been brutal so far.  At least I’ve been able to spend the morning relaxing while listening to some music.  The Slip if you are interested.  Check it out, it’s free and worth a listen.  Just bought the Ghosts I-IV from them.  I know the album was suppose to be “Pay how much you feel” type of a thing.  But I paid for the download without checking it out.  I don’t know if the music is good, but I like the business model, and where NiN is going with it.  It is a sad state of affairs when I’m looking for music based on the business model.  I will say I think they’re on to something.  They don’t need record companies anymore, all they need are tubes connected to the neterwebs.

I’m not getting on a soap box right now.  I’m feeling relaxed and happy.  Time to grab some lunch and head out to buy some Ruination.

What does this make me?

May 10th, 2008

If I go to a bar and sip beer while watching drunk younger ladies play volleyball, what does that make me? Does it make me a creepy old man? Or does it make me this guy?

I say it makes me awesome!

Why is it that after I see Squirrel and Lindsey, I always have a bad day?

At least I have some of this to make me feel better

What Time is it?

Why its almost beer:30! Hooray! What is beer:30 you might ask? You probably don’t know. Thats too bad. Beer:30 is a happy time of the day. A happy time shared amongst good friends that enjoy all that is beer. You don’t enjoy beer:30 because you aren’t cool enough. Yup, sorry, thats just how it is. What will I be drinking today at beer:30? I think today I will go with Stone’s IPA. Mmmmmm……beer.

Found an article about some beer found in jolly ole En ga land, that is 137 years old. They say its pretty good too, which is surprising since beer isn’t suppose to last anywhere close to that long. Too bad it isn’t gonna be sold or nothing. You can check out the article here.

So Tuesday night I was at the Crunch for their Oktoberfest. What a fantastical time. They had a ton of beers and the distributors there for us to taste all the different beers. I had a blast. The breweries included:

They were all fantastic beers. I got a little drunk near the end, so its hard to remember, but I think I ended up getting close to twenty different beers that night. Here are some of the highlights in my humble opinion.

If you’re looking to finish off the Oktoberfest season, one I would recomend trying is Michigan Brewing Company’s Screamin’ Pumpkin Spiced Ale. It has a great cinimon and pumpkin flavor that reminds you of home made pumpkin pie. Fantastic!

Arcadia had two new brews for us to try. They had a brandywine that was bottled two weeks ago. This thing was amazing! They also had their new strong ale which was bottled the day before. It was pretty damn good too.

The hands down winner for the evening though had to be the Stone Brews. They ended up having for us to try:

Pale Ale: Our flagship ale, Stone Pale Ale is our Southern California interpretation of the classic British pale ale style. Deel amber in color, Stone Pale Ale is robust and full flavored. A delicate hop aroma is complemented by a rich maltiness. This is an ale for those who have learned to appreciate distinctive flavor. Stone Pale Ale is great by itself, or with food that requires a beer of character.

India Pale Ale: An “India Pale Ale” by definition is higly hopped and high in alchohol(Ours is 6.9% alc./vol.). Light-medium malt character with a heavy dose of over the top hops! Two full weeks of “dry hopping” give this beer its abundant hop aroma and crisp hop flavor.

Arrogant Bastad: The “blank sheep” of the Stone family of beers. The bottle’s “You’re Not Worthy” tag line says it all! Brewed in the style of a Strong Ale, this is the perfect brew for the confirmed beer maverick, but may put others into sensory overload!

Ruination IPA: Stone Ruination IPA is so called because of the “ruinous” effect on your palate! Based on the ever-popular Stone Anniversary IPAs, this massive hop monster has a wonderfully delicious butterness on a big malt base. One taste and you can easily see why we call this brew “A liquid poem to the glory of the hop!” Those who seek, crave and rejoice in beers with big, bold, bitter character will find true nirvana in Stone Ruination IPA!

Smoked Porter: Stone Smoked Porter is dark, rich and complicated. A porter is substantially darker than a pale ale, but not as black or opaque as a stout. Our Smoked Porter has a captivatingly deep mahogany color, complimented by silky dark tan head. Rich, full bodied and robust. Smooth, with chocolate and coffee-like flavors balanced by the subtle “smoky” character of just the right amount of peat-smoked specialty malt.

Thats what Stone has to say about themselves. I say their beer is fucking fantastic! Their Pale Ale and IPA are great. If you like hoppy beer the ruination is god among beers. The smoked porter has a great taste, with a hint of smokey, and finishes smooth. The Arrogant Bastard is amazing! If you like beer you definately need to go out and find this beer. If you can’t find anywhere that has it. Yell at people till they do. They will thank you in the end I promise it.

I gotta send a shout out to Perry the Stone Regional Rep for spending time with us and bringing his amazing beers to us. Thanks again!

If you aren’t drunk yet, go get some beer and enjoy it!
