You can have your MTV

November 20th, 2008

So you might of caught this, you might not of.  I wanted to write about it when they launched the site, but the sheer magnitude of the site caused my brain to turn into pudding.  Which I ate.  And pooped out.  Then I put it back in my head and used it fertilizer to grow a new brain.  That’s why it took so long.  Anywho, some of you older hipsters might recall a time when the television reigned supreme for our entertainment.  Along those lines came a glorious addition to tv.  It was the M.  The music to your tv if you will.  It was this channel, that played music.  Like all the time.  They had these visual “videos” to go with the music.  Everyone was happy and rejoiced.  Hooray!  And then they broke it.  This masterful channel that played music videos and talked about music all day stopped showing anything remotely close to music.  In fact they stopped showing anything coming close to entertainment.  The masses became angry and said “I want my MTV!” Oh snap!  So like any huge corporation that’s totally evil and not looking out for the comrade’s people’s interest they came out with MTV2.  And it played music all the time, and the people were happy.  Hooray!  Then they broke that and came out with twelve other mtv channels that no one watches.  Lord I should know, I get them all.  I haven’t watched MTV since I finished puberty(Last week.)

So what have they done now?  Well with the onset of the netterwebs and the obvoius follow up of monetizing the netterwebs came  Great!  A website dedicated to information about the music tv channel that never plays music.  At least they have music videos there.  Thats cool.  Too bad the site became a giant cluster fuck of ads about the hills or some stupid shit.  Do you see where this is going yet?  Oh I sure didn’t.  They came from behind and yanked on my penis.  Hard.  And not the good hard.  Because MusicTV’s website,, was so clustered, they decided to created a website dedicated to music videos.  They called their site MusicTVMusic.  StupidFuckingStupid.  But then again and were taken.  It’s so hard to find good domains these days.  The tag line for the site is “I want my MTV.”  No kidding.  So do I.

In their defense, the site ain’t half bad.  Tons of videos with a nice design.  Not too many ads, but I’m sure they’ll get that fixed here soon.  The one complaint I have is the quality.  It’s terrible.  I mean sure, I get it, they didn’t shoot Thriller in HD.  But why do brand new music videos look like they were stolen off of some twelve year old’s rip he posted on youtube?  I get you haven’t been able to monetize this yet, but you have the cash to provide some high quality music videos and a chance to get a whole new generation to understand what MTV was suppose to be.  And guess what if people heard about this awesome new site from MTV where they have high quality music videos people would come and watch videos there.  You’ve provided no reason to leave youtube when looking for music videos.  I know I hate looking for a music video on youtube, instead of the video you get some kid playing the base line with some midi track on a keyboard.  Isn’t that the intention of putting up this website?  If not pardon me, and don’t forget to enjoy your tard.  Take care and funk on.

P.S.  You can have your MTV.

One of the loves of my life is music. I love to have it wherever I am. Along came the mp3 player and it made it so much easier. Smaller, easier to use, and you didn’t have to carry around a bulky pack of cds. The only problem is taking my whole collection with me. Sure most of the time a 4GB ipod nano will be fine, but what if you want access to your whole collection? An 80GB ipod might sound like the solution, but no, that won’t hold my whole collection. Now will I ever really need more than 80GB of music at any one time? Probably not. But I can remember the days when a computer would never need more than 16mb of ram.

So what I’ve done is set up Jinzora on this pc to stream my music to me. I can access it from any computer with an internet connection, and it’s my whole collection. Works like a bloody charm. I was originally worried about the quality but it’s top notch. I finally got a chance to check it out off of my own network and on a different connection. Very happy.

Next project, converting the desktop from Windows to Linux. Hopefully I can tackle that in the next few weeks or so.

Thank Goodness for a Day Off

Whew this week has been brutal so far.  At least I’ve been able to spend the morning relaxing while listening to some music.  The Slip if you are interested.  Check it out, it’s free and worth a listen.  Just bought the Ghosts I-IV from them.  I know the album was suppose to be “Pay how much you feel” type of a thing.  But I paid for the download without checking it out.  I don’t know if the music is good, but I like the business model, and where NiN is going with it.  It is a sad state of affairs when I’m looking for music based on the business model.  I will say I think they’re on to something.  They don’t need record companies anymore, all they need are tubes connected to the neterwebs.

I’m not getting on a soap box right now.  I’m feeling relaxed and happy.  Time to grab some lunch and head out to buy some Ruination.

Year Zero

April 4th, 2007

Nine Inch Nails released their new album online for you to stream from their website.  You can check it out here.  The album is going to be released for your purchase soon, so if you like it, go buy it.  Also I’ll add a link to this article.  It is talking about how songs had been leaked, by the band and record label, purpsoly as a marketing gimic.  The songs were suppose to be put up online, for people to check out.  So people found them, and put them online, like the record companies wanted.  What happens next?  The RIAA sends the websites cease-and-desist orders.  Brilliant huh?  Anyways,  I’ve been listen to the album a couple of times now.  I’m thinkin it is pretty damn good.  So enjoy.

Vids from Squirrel

January 15th, 2007

Squirrel sent me a couple of vids last night. Prolly cause I haven’t been posting much. So here we go.

Goes to show you our armed forces *might* have too much free time on there hand. This is what you’ll think. Or instead you might think they’re stupid, statistics show blah blah blah. Its simply the fact that they are bored in a desert foreign country. Think about this. You’re at home, and we take away your beer, your tv, your computer, leave you with a few books, and maybe a pack of cigarettes. What are you going to do? Anything at all that can eat up ten minutes of your day.

Here is a twelve year old kid playing a killer drum solo. Squirrel raises the point of it being legit or not. You can be surprised by what this “cgi” technology can do. Its hard to tell per say, the sound doesn’t seem to be synced perfectly, and the picture quality is bad. My penis has better picture quality. Speaking of that, its off the topic of today, but that might just get us a rant in a day or two. Anyways, it more than likely is real. We’ve all seen the 8 year old piano prodigies. Why not a drum prodigy? I played with this guy in high school and he was suppose to be that good when he was twelve. I can assure you he could play a solo like that with one hand, while drinking a mountain dew in high school. Watched him do it. Anyways, enjoy the vids, and don’t forget to pat your local goose on the head. Fuck off you nancies!

Warner Music CEO Admits His Kid “Stole” Music, Didn’t Get Sued

December 26th, 2006

Somehow I missed this, I have no idea how. You can check out the article, there isn’t alot more info there but the replies to it pretty much sum it up. Pretty much a bunch of people mad, neeping and noping about how hypocritical it is. Blah blah blah. Guess what? He is a rich fucking son of a bitch. The only way he can sleep at night is alot of booze and pain killers. Get a grip. Of course he isn’t going to punish his son with anything more than a slap on the wrist. He’s rich and powerful. He can do as he fucking pleases. There’s nothing to it. Now what would be interesting if the defense lawyers could do something with this.

James Brown

James Brown passed away this morning. What a horrible loss for music. This sorta stings. James was where funk started. Bummer.

MP3 of the Week

December 19th, 2006

If you don’t remember, Incubus just put out a new album called Light Grenades. Really, really good. This is a must buy in my book. Some die hard Incubus fans who don’t like the pop-ier sound might not enjoy this album fully. Then again you should appreciate the music for what it is, and not expect the same 12 songs every year. Anyways, all the songs on the album are fantastic. These two caught my ear right off the bat, and I haven’t been able to stop listening to them. I have also been unable to decide which one to throw up on the funkyhouse. Since its that time of year, I figure I can play Santa-goose for a while and treat you to both. I hope you enjoy.
