I Hacked My Webhost!

November 24th, 2014

I didn’t even mean it! That’s how good of a hacker I am. Just kidding. I did cause my host to go down and got my account all suspended like. Cause I’m a lazy jerk.

Approximately my skill level of hacking.

You see this website is quite old. Currently there are posts going back to 2005. I have some backup data stretching to 2004. There were posts from earlier that are gone, lost due to a lack of backups in the way back. There have been times when I have made very frequent posts, and other points where I have made zero posts. The most recent dry spell was from June 2012 to about June 2014. It’s an interesting time frame when you think about it. Let’s just say two years. For two years it has just sat on my webhost’s server doing nothing. No posts, no checking in on the website. WordPress updates were far and few between. I started posting again in June, and started working on getting everything updated, included the site’s theme. The going was slow, maybe only a few minutes every couple of weeks.

Well one of the plug-ins I had installed had become very out of date during that time. WAY out of date. In fact I think the publisher stopped maintaining it before my last hiatus. Someone took advantage of this hole and crashed the webserver causing my host to suspend my account. Not at all what I had intended to happen. Shame on me for falling behind.

This is a valuable lesson for myself and anyone else out there running a WordPress website. Patch Patch Patch! As frequently as you can. Did that plug-in stop being maintained? Ask yourself if you need it. If you do look for an alternative that is being maintained. Migrate to it immediately. WordPress has gone way out of their way to make patching an incredibly easy process now. Most important of all don’t forget to backup!

Thankfully I was able to work with my host and we got rid of that nasty old plug-in and now everything is honky dory. I’ve done my best to speed things up for refreshing the site. Hopefully I’ll have that ready to go here soon.

A Fresher funkyHouse

February 19th, 2010

Ahhh that looks pleasant doesn’t it?  It’s been quite some time since I’ve changed how the house looks.  And wouldn’t you know that as soon as K2, the theme that has been on here for how many years goes gold I get tired of it.  My hat goes off to those guys, I love your theme and you’ve done amazing work with the theme.  But as with anything I look at, if I spend too much time looking at it I have to punch a baby.  And no one wants me punching babies.

I know using a theme from someone else is still a cop out, but I honestly barely have the time to think about witty posts let alone re-creating the site’s look.  This theme is about as close as someone else would probably get to what I’d like to see any ways.  I would still like to do it myself just to be able to say “I did it!” It might be something I tackle some day, you never know.  There’s other things I’d rather do first.  I hope the site is pleasant enough for you to look at.  Feel free to let me know what you think.  Till next time take care and funk on.

A Bumpy Road

April 28th, 2008

So I mentioned a few posts ago my host was slow.  Real slow.  Hulk smash slow.  Well fuck those slow pea-poo heads.  I’ve moved the house over to a new super awesome pwnz0ring host.  It is fast.  It is very Hooray!  Many a thanks goes to spartanhosting.net for keepin an eye on the ole house of funky.  I’ll get a proper link up for em soon.

So apparently there’s a lot more rust on my webtertubes skills than I had thought.  I botched it up pretty bad from the looks.  I’ll get it all fixed back up and a goin as soon as I can.

I suppose in some ways(Careful I’m getting deep here, continue at your own risk) we all travel a bumpy road at one point or another.  Some bumpier than others.  We really don’t enjoy traveling on the bumpy roads, obviously we would prefer the smooth one.  In my experience though, the smooth roads are boring and end up taking you nowhere fast.  The bumpy road may be bad for your tailbone(Consult your doctor) but they’re gonna take you to a better place if you stay on it.  So the moral of my philisophicating is to give me a beer, and get your ass on the bumpy road with me.  Otherwise you won’t get anywhere and I’ll be sober.  And that just seems wrong.

Take care and funk on.

Happy Hapmas Day!

Happy Valentines Day

February 14th, 2007

That’s right. It’s that time of year where if you are in a relationship you are better than everyone else. Also the women get to show off how whipped their men are. Men, we get to show how neutered we are. The fat cats at hallmark are smoking money while fucking hookers, and single people are drinking their favorite cheap style of booze.

Happy Valentines Day

Me? I think this will be my vice of choice for the evening. Boy does their slogan have a double meaning there. Yahtzee!

For those of you lucky enough to run around town spending way too much on flowers and candy for that special harpy of yours, here are some tips from playboy.

MP3 of the Week

December 19th, 2006

If you don’t remember, Incubus just put out a new album called Light Grenades. Really, really good. This is a must buy in my book. Some die hard Incubus fans who don’t like the pop-ier sound might not enjoy this album fully. Then again you should appreciate the music for what it is, and not expect the same 12 songs every year. Anyways, all the songs on the album are fantastic. These two caught my ear right off the bat, and I haven’t been able to stop listening to them. I have also been unable to decide which one to throw up on the funkyhouse. Since its that time of year, I figure I can play Santa-goose for a while and treat you to both. I hope you enjoy.

MP3 of the Week

November 26th, 2006

So it’s about time for our “weekly” mp3. Here is one off of Jay-Z’s new album Kingdom Come. Back from retirement two years of vacation from rap, he has made another great rap album. The reviews out there appear to be mix, some saying bad, some saying good. Which means the best thing to do is check it out yourself and make your own decision. I’m not giving you the single, check that out on “music tv.” Here is the song that caught my attention. Enjoy!

Just want to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone loving on the goose here. Have fun with your families, and don’t forget to have some turkey.

MP3 of the Week

November 3rd, 2006

Here is a song off of the Foo Fighter’s new album Skin and Bones.  I knew it was a live album, and I figured they had rocked it out if they were putting out a live album.  I pop it in, and the first track is acoustic.  And I was sad about that for a few moments.  It’s mostly acoustic, but they do bring in some keyboards and drums, even a violin, and I think a harmonica gets tossed in there somewhere.  Anyways, my point is that they made it work well for their songs.  In fact this is quite an enjoyable album.  There are a ton of great tracks on this album so it was hard to have one for you to pick out.  So you should definately pick up the album to listen to it all.  Till you do, here is your “weekly” treat.
